Sophomore wrestler Jeff McAveney (New Fairfield, Conn.) has been selected
to the Division I East Coast Wrestling Conference All-Freshman Team.
McAveney, a former two-time high school state champion, wrestled at 174
pounds for the Bearcats. He won 15 matches, including seven by either
major decision or pin.
McAveney earned all-state distinction with his seventh place showing at the
New York State Championship in January, helping BU place fifth among 22
teams. He also placed sixth at the prestigious VerticalNet Carolina Open.
"Jeff did an outstanding job for us this year," head coach Mike Fusilli
said. "He is an aggressive wrestler who is tough on top. We expect even
more from him as he gains experience at the Division I level."
