Senior women's soccer player Samantha Lang (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and junior
wrestler Chris Karas (Sachem, N.Y.) have been named All-American Athletes
by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The two
athletes were nominated by BU Strength and Conditioning Coach Adam Miller,
and join 171 other athletes from 74 colleges and universities across the
country.
The awards are based on dedication to strength training and conditioning,
along with athletic accomplishments, academic and personal achievements,
community involvement and leadership qualities.
"Sam exemplifies what a team player is all about," Miller said. "She has
outstanding strength and speed for her size, and although diagnosed with
lumbar disc herniation, she still showed her dedication by never missing a
training session."
"Chris is the consummate athlete. He is strong, agile, trains religiously,
and is a smart wrestler. He consistently shows his improvements in
strength and power gained in the weight room, and his performance in the
classroom mimics his actions on the mat."
Lang was the team MVP for a BU women's soccer team that went 11-5-1 playing
a full Division I schedule. She recorded three assists, and led a
defensive unit that posted seven shutouts and limited opponents to an
average of one goal per game.
Karas competed at 184 pounds for the wrestling team, and won 10 matches
during the 2000-01 season. He placed sixth at the highly-regarded
Bloomsburg Open, and produced 21 team points in dual matches.
The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year award program is in its 18th
year, and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a
Knoxville, Tennessee fitness product leader.
