Junior Kate Mullins placed eighth in both the heptathlon and the pole vault at the ECAC Division I Championship, hosted by Princeton University on May 18-19.
Mullins extended her own school record in the heptathlon, accumulating 4,589 points in the two-day, seven-event competition. Her previous record was 4,462 points, set at the Penn Relays in late April. She had the fourth-fastest time in the 800 meters (2:22.32) and fifth-best mark in the javelin (103-feet-10) among the 14-woman field. Mullins’ effort in the long jump (17-feet-7) was her career best by a foot, and she also had the seventh-fastest time in the 100 low hurdles (15.13).
Less than two hours after completing the heptathlon, Mullins entered the pole vault competition, and placed eighth among 29 competitors. She cleared 11-feet-11 3/4 - a height that was bettered by only five other women.
Mullins’ pair of top-eight finishes gave Binghamton two team points and a placement of 45th at the meet.
The 4 x 100 relay unit of sophomores Jamila Glean and Larisa Least, and juniors Nathalee McKenzie and Aniecia Modeste finished fifth in the their heat and 20th overall with a time of 47.97.
