For Immediate Release: July 14, 2002 Contact: John Hartrick BU golfer Hendrickson to play in Publinks Championship Junior-to-be will open 36-hole stroke play Monday in Michigan

Binghamton University golfer Keith Hendrickson (Syosset, N.Y.) will compete in the 77th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship Monday and Tuesday, July 15-16 at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington, Michigan. Hendrickson will be among 156 golfers in the field, and will tee off Monday at 8:39 a.m. There will be 18 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, with the low 64 scorers advancing to match play beginning Wednesday. He earned a spot in the U.S. Publinks by placing second at the June 17-18 Sectional Qualifying at Harbor Links Golf Course. There, Hendrickson carded rounds of 74-73. Hendrickson transferred to Binghamton in the spring from Campbell University (N.C.). He immediately jumped into the starting lineup and played in six tournaments, maintaining a stroke average of 78.3. Hendrickson placed third in the New England Championship with rounds of 78-71 and finished fourth out of 109 golfers at the Towson Classic with rounds of 70-73. He will look to duplicate the success teammate Adam Fuchs enjoyed at last year’s Championship, played in San Antonio. There, he gained national attention by winning four matches to advance to the semifinals. Fuchs did not earn a spot in this year’s field, however, finishing three strokes behind Hendrickson at the sectional qualifier — two shots out of the last spot. He was a first alternate, but did not gain a last-minute berth. The Orchards Golf Club (par 72), designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and will be set at 7,001 yards. Defending champion Chez Reavie and runner-up Danny Green highlight the 2002 field. Reavie gained a berth in The Master’s with his victory a year ago, and Green is a U.S. Walker Cup member who advanced to the finals with a 2-up semifinal win over Fuchs.
