THOMAS J. GOMULKA '71

A native of Johnson City, NY, Thomas J. Gomulka played basketball at Binghamton from 1967-71. He earned his bachelor's degree in business in 1971, and received his master's degree in accounting in 1975.
Gomulka was the first University athlete named first team All-New York State when he was selected by the sports writers in 1969-70. That year he averaged 28.7 points per game, which ranked 12th in the country for Division II and III athletes. One of Binghamton's 1,000-point scorers, Gomulka has the highest career per game scoring average (24.1) of any basketball player in the school's 51-year history. He is the only player to ever lead Binghamton in scoring as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.
In four years, he scored 1,400 points and currently holds or shares six records - including most points scored in a single game. During the '69-70 season, he scored 45 points in one game, and also set the school record with 18 field goals in another contest.
Also an accurate free throw shooter, Gomulka converted 21-of-22 attempts in a 1969 game, and holds season and career marks for free throws made.
Gomulka, who also played varsity golf, was named Binghamton's "Athlete of the Year" in 1969-70. He also was a three-time team MVP, and was the school's Foundation Award winner in 1971.
