About Binghamton University
spacer
Binghamton University is a distinguished public educational and research institution. One of four University Centers of the State University of New York, Binghamton offers academic programs leading to the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Binghamton’s programs draw upon nationally recognized faculty, 498 in all, to create an outstanding academic experience for its 11,174 undergraduate students - in schools of arts and sciences, education and human development, management, nursing, engineering and applied science.

The 600-acre Binghamton campus occupies a wooded hillside near the Susquehanna River in the Southern Tier of the Empire State. The Campus is arranged in an irregular oval, with residential colleges on the perimeter and classroom buildings in the center. A comprehensive research library system, state-of-the art computer facilities and a superb center for the performing arts provide a well-rounded experience for the Binghamton University community.
Basketball - history
The institution dates from 1946,, when Triple Cities College opened in Endicott, five miles west of the present campus, as a branch of Syracuse University. When the college was incorporated into the State University of New York system four years later, it was renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who devoted his later years to settling the area around Binghamton. After moving to its present location in Vestal, the campus was designated a State University Center in 1965.
