Greenberg signs with pro basketball team in Denmark
Bess Greenberg, the most accomplished basketball player in Binghamton
history, will take her dazzling game to Denmark in late September, where
she will begin a professional career with the Virum Basketball Club in
Copenhagen. Greenberg, who graduated in May after scoring a BU-record
2,024 career points, signed a contract with the team, whose season runs
through April.
“I feel so lucky to be going over there right now,” Greenberg said. “It’s a perfect blend of what I want at this point. I want to live within another culture, and find out how I respond to another part of the world. Basketball is giving me an opportunity to do that. It just kind of blows my mind.” Greenberg signed a deal for the first half of the season, running through mid-December. The contract includes an apartment in Copenhagen, a pass for transportation and a weekly stipend. The team’s opening game is September 23.

The decision culminates an intense several weeks for Greenberg, who also
mullled over several offers to play professionally in Israel. During that
time, her accolades continued to pour in, as the NCAA selected Greenberg as
the New York State winner for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year.
In her stellar four-year collegiate career, Greenberg was a two-time basketball All-American and three-time Academic All-American. She established 13 school records and led the program to the NCAA tournament twice, and the ECAC Championship the other two seasons. During Greenberg’s tenure, Binghamton went 97-16 (86%).
