For Immediate Release: April 28, 2002 Contact: John Hartrick Fuchs leads golf team to third at Rhode Island Invitational Junior fires even-par 71 in Saturday’s final round | ||||
Junior Adam Fuchs (Plainview, N.Y.) placed third out of 92 individuals, leading the Bearcats to a third-place showing at the 18-team Rhode Island Spring Invitational at Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I. Fuchs tallied five birdies in his final round, which was nine strokes better than his opening 18 holes. As a team, BU came in at 319-308=627, behind only host Rhode Island (609) and runner-up UConn (615) in the 36-hole tournament. Finishing behind the Bearcats were Central Connecticut (632), Army (634) and America East rival Hartford (637). Binghamton and Hartford are expected to battle for the conference crown April 29-30 when the America East Championship is contested at Cyprian Keyes Golf Course in Boylson, Mass.
Senior Adam Singer (Clymer, N.Y.) carded 78-80=158 to tie for 17th place. The Bearcats sat in fifth place after Day 1, but moved up two spots as all five golfers shot 80 or below. | ||||
