BU student-athletes’ grade-point averages still on rise

For the fifth consecutive semester, Binghamton University student-athletes maintained an average grade-point average above the 3.0 mark. With the completion of the spring semester, BU’s 19 varsity sports teams continued their tradition of excellence in the classroom.

The entire student-athlete group held an average GPA of 3.04 - up from the 3.03 mark attained in the fall. Thirteen teams posted a 3.0 or higher GPA - a number that represents 76% of Binghamton’s total intercollegiate teams. In all, 158 of BU’s 267 athletes attained a 3.0 or higher (59%), including 80 individuals who achieved a 3.5 or higher (30%).

Since the University elevated its athletics program to NCAA Division II in fall 1998, its student-athletes have averaged a 3.0 or higher in five of six semesters.

Binghamton will open its inaugural NCAA Division I campaign in the fall as a member of the America East conference.
